Use acrylic. Wash the shoes first to get off anything that would resist the paint. You don’t have to bother drying them if you don’t want to, but you will get a different effect if you do. For a richer look, instead of using water to thin the paint use medium. It comes in matte and gloss. You can of course apply the paint as it comes from the tube without diluting it.
Once your shoes are dry they should clean-up with a wet cloth. If you do put them in the washing machine use cold water and DON’T put them in the dryer.se acrylic paint because it dries fast as you may already knew. However, I do not recommend washing machine unless you want it to be faded quickly. You can also use inexpensive Plaid acrylic paint for experimenting, this one has fabric solution to mix with paint which is suitable for fabric also.
